Who can join the band?
Any interested CSU student can join the band. Auditions
for brass and woodwinds are for part placement only.
The make-up of the percussion and visual ensemble sections
are arranged based on equipment availability. There
is a spot for all motivated students.
How do I join the band?
Follow Directions Outlined in the <<How
to Join the Band>> and show up for band camp!
What is a commitment form?
This is a form used to accurately keep track of all of our
members, instrumentation, and drill count. This form
is taken seriously, so please only fill this out when you
can fully commit to the band. Filling out this commitment
form is a commitment to all band participants that you will
attend band camp and rehearsals consistently, and that you
will be present at all full band performances.
How do I get to practice and performances?
Those with cars can drive, some
student parking is available. Carpools are also organized.
The UCA is close enough to walk or ride your bike from campus.
What is a typical game day like?
We
practice before the game either at Hughes Stadium or at the
UCA. Equipment is loaded and taken to the stadium the
night before or the morning of the game. After rehearsal
we eat and then get into uniform. Once in uniform, we
perform at tailgates around the stadium, then we enter the
stadium for pre-game. Once pre-game is finished we perform
in the stands until we take the field once again to perform
our halftime show. Once the Rams have won, we play select
tunes for a quick post game show in the stands, followed by
playing/singing the Alma Mater. Then we load the equipment
truck and are free to go, except for the volunteers who go
back to the UCA to unload. That is an average game day
for a CSUMB member.
Will I get credit for being in the band?
Yes!
All band members receive one credit for being in the marching
band. Visual Ensemble, Golden Poms, and Percussion get an
extra 1-hour credit for their sectional time.
